Granja is a village in the municipality of Mourão. The parish borders Spain, with the nearby villages of Amareleja to the south and Mourão to the north.

It is now one of the riverside villages of the Alqueva reservoir, located along one of the dam’s arms, the Alcarrache stream.

Among Granja’s heritage sites, the Main Church stands out, rising above the other village houses. Built in the 16th century with a rectangular plan and a spacious nave, it features interior paintings of great interest. The Church of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, located in the center of the village, is also notable.

Little is known about the parish’s history, largely due to repeated raids by the Spanish during the Restoration War. However, references dating back to the 13th century mention a Granja do Hospital, administered by the religious order of the Freires do Hospital.

Romans and Arabs also inhabited this region, leaving legacies such as the bridges over the Alcarrache and Godelim rivers, as well as several Moorish chimneys.
