The villages along the shores of Alqueva form an important tourist hub and should be included in any visitor’s itinerary.

There are 16 riverside villages that are part of the region, also known as Terras do Grande Lago (Lands of the Great Lake).

They are;

Village of Luz, Village of Alqueva, Amieira, Campinho, Capelins, Estrela, Granja, Juromenha, Marmelar, Mina da Orada, Monsaraz, Monte do Trigo, Pedrogão, Póvoa de São Miguel, São Marcos do Campo e Telheiro.

and across the border, Cheles and Vila Real.
