Torrejona Dolmen (Anta da Torrejona)

Torrejona 1
This megalithic monument was carefully planned, with the base rock excavated to outline its structure. It features shared orthostats (stone supports)—at least two—and is built from large schist stones. The polygonal chamber has seven orthostats, while the corridor is asymmetrical, with two orthostats on one side and one on the other. The tumulus (burial mound) currently measures 4.5 meters in radius. There may be a secondary rectangular burial in the corridor, adjacent to one of the chamber’s orthostats. Several small pits and a possible sub-circular rock-cut hut near the monument suggest either the construction phase or earlier occupation of the site.

Torrejona 2
This megalithic monument also consists of a tumulus, chamber, and corridor, and was likely disturbed as early as the Roman period. The chamber originally had seven orthostats (three still in situ) and was covered by an approximately circular capstone, much of which has fallen to the southeast of the excavation. The corridor contains at least two orthostats (one in situ) and measures roughly 1.6 meters in length. The tumulus is in poor condition, with a retaining ring around the chamber’s orthostats.
