Rocha da Mina

A Pre-Roman sanctuary, possibly dedicated to Endovélico, the indigenous Lusitanian god. Remains of a sacrificial altar, steps carved into the rock, and ruins of dwellings on the lower platform are still visible. The origin of the site is unknown, and it was abandoned at the beginning of the Roman occupation of the territory.

The path to Rocha da Mina is a somewhat mystical experience. The route to the sanctuary winds through a dense forest, where sunlight barely filters through, guided by the Lucefecit stream accompanying the walkers. The massive natural schist outcrop rises among the foliage, creating a strong sense of awe and respect.

Location

From Alandroal, follow the N373 towards Redondo. After about 6 km, turn left at a small sign indicating Rocha da Mina. The road is unpaved, and the sanctuary is about 2 km from the turn-off.
