São Pedro do Corval Pottery

São Pedro do Corval is the largest pottery center in Portugal. In this village, within the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz, there are more than 20 workshops dedicated to traditional handcrafted pottery.

This region of the Alentejo has unique clay deposits dating back to prehistoric times. Throughout history, these clays have been used by the peoples who inhabited the area to create utilitarian objects for everyday use.

Even today, it is possible to witness the art of pottery-making in São Pedro do Corval. Master potters shape the clay by hand on the wheel while sharing stories with visitors. Once formed, the pieces are fired in wood-burning kilns and painted in the beautiful, characteristic colors of the Alentejo.

Location

São Pedro do Corval is located between Reguengos de Monsaraz and the medieval village of Monsaraz.
