The Parish Church of Santo António (Igreja Matriz de Santo António), located in the center of Reguengos de Monsaraz, was built in honor of Saint Anthony, with its foundation stone laid on October 27, 1887.
The design was created by architect António José Dias da Silva, also known for designing the Campo Pequeno Bullring in Lisbon. He envisioned a building reflecting the romantic spirit of the Neo-Manueline Gothic style of the period.
The church has a Latin cross layout with a bell tower positioned at the center of the façade. Its interior comprises three naves, a prominent transept, and three chapels in the apse area.
The nave’s structure, featuring large flying buttresses, along with the central placement of the tower on the front, makes this church one of the finest examples of neo-Gothic architecture in Portugal.
