The Parish Church of Portel, originally dating back to 1532, was dedicated to Our Lady of Alagoa. The current church, built between 1754 and 1766, replaced the original medieval parish church, which stood within the walled town. Over time, the interior space underwent several renovations. In the main chapel, visitors can admire paintings by the Portel-born artist Maria Toscano Rico.
The main façade is divided into three vertical sections, defined by pairs of pilasters. The bell towers rise on either side, forming narrower lateral sections. At the center, the main portal and the large window above it are aligned on the same vertical axis.
Inside, the church features a rectangular layout. The nave is covered by a barrel vault, defined by a cornice that runs along the upper part of the walls. The lower sections of the walls are lined with modern tiles in a Neoclassical style, featuring medallions depicting scenes from the Calvary of Christ.
