Parish Church of São Pedro, Terena

The Parish Church of São Pedro is situated on one of the highest points of the town. Its origins are very old, with records of its existence dating back to 1394. According to tradition, this is the second parish church of the town, succeeding the first, now known as the Sanctuary of Boa Nova.

From its early origins, the church still preserves Gothic statues of Saint Peter, the patron saint, and Saint Catherine of Alexandria, made of marble and displayed on the acroteria of the main façade. In the 16th century, the church underwent alterations, including the apse with ribbed vaulting, decorated with maçaroca-style tiles. In the 18th century, the gilded wood altarpiece of the main altar and the marble pulpit were added.
