Located in the municipality of Barrancos, Noudar Nature Park was created following EDIA’s acquisition of the Herdade da Coitadinha estate in 1997, as compensation for the loss of habitats caused by the construction of the Alqueva dam.
The park is predominantly covered by holm oak woodland (montado de azinho) and stands out for its outstanding natural beauty, with very limited human impact. Its remote location and restricted access contribute to this preserved landscape. Situated near the Spanish border, the park is bounded by the Ardila River to the north and by the Múrtega stream to the south.
Among the park’s main points of interest are Noudar Castle, the Herdade da Coitadinha estate, and other particularly beautiful spots such as Fonte da Pipa, the Múrtega stream, and the Ardila River.
Noudar Nature Park offers a wide range of activities, all centered on close contact with nature. Hiking, wildlife and flora observation, and electric vehicle tours along the Noudar trails are some of the activities available.
Visitors can also stay overnight at the Herdade da Coitadinha, in Casa do Monte or Casa da Malta. The latter is especially equipped to accommodate youth groups, holiday camps, or school field trips.
Noudar Nature Park is a place of unique natural beauty and well worth a visit.
