Matriz Park, rebuilt in 2007 by Portel Town Council, is a space dedicated to leisure activities. This site was once the location of the parish church’s vegetable garden.
Here we find a children’s playground, where children can enjoy the equipment available and stroll around the park, a car park, two modern kiosks with tourist and leisure information, the Saborear Portel Kiosk (providing tourist information, bicycle hire and promotion of regional products from the municipality) the Biblionet Kiosk (providing access to information through newspapers, magazines and the internet) the Casa da Açorda (a traditional cuisine restaurant) and a picnic area next to the Nora.
There are several fruit trees and olive trees, some of which are many years old, and there are still some traces of the parish church’s vegetable garden, such as the irrigation channels and the waterwheel, which are decorative features of this park, although they have undergone some repairs to improve their state of conservation.
