Parish Church of Amareleja

The Parish Church of Amareleja is a small church built in the 16th century. It has a single nave and a main altar featuring the figure of its patroness, Our Lady of the Conception.

During the 1755 earthquake, the bell tower was destroyed and later rebuilt in 1757. The vaulted ceiling was constructed in 1821, replacing the previous wooden roof.

One of the church’s most remarkable features is an olive tree growing in a small niche on the façade, with no record of it ever being planted. This unusual characteristic makes the church truly unique.

Location

It is located on Rua da Igreja, in the village of Amareleja, municipality of Moura.
