Ilha Dourada, Alqueva

In the middle of the Great Lake of Alqueva, near Monsaraz, lies a deserted island with a soft sandy beach and sparkling grains of sand that look like tiny pieces of gold—hence the name Ilha Dourada (Golden Island). With summer water temperatures reaching 30°C, it is a true paradise in the heart of Alqueva.

To reach the island, head to the Monsaraz river beach, where boats depart for the island. In about 30 minutes, you arrive at this little piece of paradise. Silence, velvet-soft sand, calm and warm waters—a place that invites you to stay and relax.

Shorter tours last around 1 hour and 30 minutes, including one hour of navigation (round trip) and 30 minutes on the island. This is enough time to explore and take a swim, but you will certainly wish to stay longer. Other tours include a snack or lunch and allow you to enjoy the experience more fully. There is also the option of spending the entire day on the island.

Do not forget to bring sun umbrellas and sunscreen, as the island offers very little shade.
