Doctor Santiago Garden, Moura

The Dr. Santiago Garden dates back to the 19th century and was initially called “Passeio” (Promenade). Around 1934, it was renamed “Jardim Doutor Santiago” in honor of the doctor and mayor of Moura.

It features a Victorian style, where plants take center stage alongside the architecture. Its flower-filled terrace with centuries-old trees offers visitors a splendid view, thanks to its elevated location, overlooking the Alentejo landscape and even the Alqueva Dam.

Inside the grounds, we find the thermal baths, with mineral-medicinal waters, recommended for the treatment of rheumatism and colitis. In addition to the thermal baths, there is also a kiosk, bandstand, children’s playground, waterfall, lakes, changing rooms, drinking fountains, tables, and benches. The Salúquia fountain was the last construction and dates back to 1927.
