Dark Sky Alqueva Observatory

The official Dark Sky Observatory is located in Cumeada, about 7 km from Reguengos de Monsaraz. It is also the headquarters of Dark Sky Alqueva, both of which are housed in a historic building, a former primary school that has been completely refurbished and adapted.

The Observatory is equipped with state-of-the-art telescopes for solar and astronomical observation. They allow you to observe the deep sky, the craters of the moon, planets, galaxies and nebulae that rise above this sky, which, without atmospheric or light pollution, is one of the best skies in the world for astronomical observation.

The Dark Sky headquarters has a permanent exhibition of photographs by astrophotographer Miguel Claro, as well as a small museum where you can touch a real meteorite or see an original autograph from the last astronaut to go to the moon! There are also various activities available that allow visitors to combine astronomical observation with experiences such as wine tasting under the stars or cocktails at sunset.
