The Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz was rebuilt as a faithful replica of the original 15th-century church, which was submerged by the waters of the Alqueva Dam. During the reconstruction, the adjacent cemetery was also relocated.
At the Luz Museum, next to the church, visitors can learn about the former village of Luz, the impact of the dam’s construction, and the process of building the new village.
