The Castle of Terena, located at the highest point of Terena, is part of the defensive line along the Guadiana River, alongside the castles of Juromenha, Alandroal, Monsaraz, and Mourão. The earliest references to the settlement date back to the 13th century, and it is believed that the construction of the castle began during this period.
From the Castle of Terena, visitors can enjoy one of the best views of the region, overlooking the village, the Lucefécit Dam, and the vast Alentejo plains stretching as far as the eye can see.
The castle has been classified as a National Monument since 1946.
