On Rua do Quebra-Costas stands a two-storey building featuring a curious tiled panel decorated with symbolic iconographic elements. According to local tradition, this building once served as the House of the Inquisition. Oral accounts describe it as a place of torture, where inquisitors inflicted severe punishments on prisoners.
However, there is no documentary evidence confirming this tradition. It is believed that the building may have been used by the Inquisition not as a tribunal, but rather as an archive for case files or as a temporary holding prison before prisoners were transferred to the Tribunal of the Holy Office in Évora.
Today, the building houses the Interactive Centre of Jewish History in Monsaraz.
