The Amareleja Clock Tower is located in the center of the village. Rising majestically above the surrounding houses, it stands out with its vibrant colors and can be seen from all around Amareleja.
The building housing the tower belongs to the Diocese of Beja and was originally intended to be a church. In 1838, however, it was converted into a cemetery. Construction work resumed in 1879 but was never completed. From the early 1980s, the space has been used for multiple purposes, including open-air cinema, fairs, and concerts.
In 2019, the tower underwent restoration and refurbishment, including the construction of a roof. Today, it serves as a performance venue, hosting a variety of cultural events.
