Reguengos de Monsaraz is a town in the Alentejo, the seat of a traditionally agricultural municipality whose neighbors are the municipalities of Mourão, Évora, Alandroal, Redondo and Portel.

The history of Reguengos is closely linked to that of Monsaraz, an ancient village and county seat that is one of the most beautiful and well-known locations in the Alentejo. Around Monsaraz there are numerous megalithic remains that demonstrate the occupation of this region since ancient times.

The region is also known for the quality of its nationally recognized handicrafts, examples of which include the pottery of São Pedro do Corval, the country’s first pottery center, and the famous blankets of Reguengos.

In addition to its rich surroundings, the town of Reguengos is also home to the Mother Church, built in honor of Saint Anthony in 1887. It was designed by architect António José Dias da Silva, who also designed the Campo Pequeno Bullring in Lisbon, and features characteristics of the romantic spirit of the Gothic-Manueline period.

Due to its proximity to the Alqueva reservoir, its megalithic heritage, its crafts, and its wines, Reguengos de Monsaraz is now a city of enormous tourist interest, which has led to significant development in recent years.
