The municipality of Alandroal is the northernmost of the councils bordering the Alqueva Lake. Here, the waters of Alqueva blend with the Guadiana River, which takes on a new dimension. Throughout the municipality, visitors will find numerous points of interest, historic sites, and traces of the many peoples who have inhabited this land over the millennia.

In the center of the town of Alandroal, you will find the Castle, with the Parish Church located inside its walls. A few kilometers away stands the impressive Fortress of Juromenha, set beside the Guadiana River in a strategic position that served for centuries as a key defensive stronghold of the region.

Further south lies Terena, a charming village crowned by its castle, from which you can enjoy magnificent views over the town, the Lucefécit Dam, and the vast Alentejo plains. In Terena, visit the Parish Church of São Pedro, and just a few kilometers away discover the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Boa Nova, a rare example of a fortified church in the Alentejo.

The municipality also preserves traces of a more distant past, such as Rocha da Mina, an ancient place of worship dedicated to the Lusitanian native god Endovélico. Near Santiago Maior, you will find the Menhir of Pedra Alçada, the largest in the region, standing at an impressive 10 meters high.
