Alandroal is a Portuguese town in the District of Évora, standing on a hill at an altitude of 341 meters. It is located near the Spanish border and is bounded to the north by Vila Viçosa, to the west by Redondo, and to the south by Reguengos and Mourão.

Alandroal was founded in 1298 by Dom Lourenço Afonso, Master of Avis, and was elevated to the status of town in 1486 through a Charter (Foral) granted by King João II. During the 19th century, the territories of the former municipalities of Terena and Juromenha were annexed to the municipality of Alandroal. The riverside settlement of Vila Real (Villareal), near the Alqueva and belonging to Olivença (under Spanish administration), was once part of the old municipality of Juromenha.

The name Alandroal comes from the aloendro trees that grow in this region, whose wood is used in local handicrafts. Noteworthy as well are traditional crafts made from cork, leather, and horn.
